Gandhi Fellowship - Pre- Placement Talk

Introduction to Gandhi Fellowship:

India today faces a major crunch of leaders in every domain. The top minds of the top colleges in our country are busy running after personal success rather than even thinking about the society. The Fellowship aims to guide talented youth to actively engage with solving the myriad problems plaguing the country today. With this goal, Gandhi Fellowship creates a genre of nation builders having gone through the 2 year leadership curriculum.

The Fellowship is an intensive 2-year residential program that helps talented young people develop the leadership skills necessary to cause disproportionate positive change in the society. The Fellowship challenges these young people to support primary school headmasters to transform their schools. In the process, Fellows discover what they want to do with their own lives and how to go about converting their ideas into reality.

The fellowship is conceptualized in a manner where a fellow goes through an outer as well as an inner journey of change.

Outer Journey:

The fellow works with 5 Government Schools, 5 Headmasters, 50 Teachers, 500 Children and the community, with the objective of bringing about sustainable and visible development of both: public school systems and the quality of learning.

Inner Journey:

The deeper change is however something that happens within the fellows. The program is designed for the youth of the country to systematically build the competencies of a leader and provide them with a framework, which supports grass-root experiential learning. This helps them to deepen their knowledge of the existing systems and challenge their abilities to find solutions and bring forth their own rigour, perseverance and leading change.

The course of the Fellowship:

We divide this 2 year intensive program into 4 semesters and where the fellow is interspersed with responsibility of 5 government schools, daily peer reviews, expert reviews, personal reflection workshops, field visits to social organizations, vipassana meditation retreats, reflective reading etc. This helps the fellow to evolve and develop critical leadership skills. We expect the fellows to come out of this two-year having achieved the below competencies which we believe are the essentials of a successful nation builders:

1. Self Awareness

2. Collaborative Work

3. Influence Without Authority

4. Excellence

5. Risk-Taking & Entrepreneurial Ability

6. Value Articulation

7. Private Dream Articulation

Your role in the Public System Schools:

The major role is to strategically help the Head Masters in building their capacity as a leader; overcome challenges and improve the quality of learning; support the Head Masters in everything relating to the school development plan - organizing an ideal morning assembly, increasing student enrollment, improving the mid-day meal system, organizing School Monitoring Committee (SMC), mobilizing community participation and collaboration with their fellow teachers.

Support we offer:

Apart from the monthly stipend of Rs. 14,000 (divided in two halves), the fellows are given a mobile allowance, vehicle (bikes/scotty,etc) and fuel reimbursement, tablets/laptops or notebook with an internet connection, cost of water and electricity charges, city allowance (if applicable), accommodation and services of the cook are also borne by the organization.

Who we look for:

We look for students of top colleges across India who have demonstrated leadership qualities through academics and extra curricular activities (sports, music, etc). We are also looking for young corporate professionals who have the quality and potential to lead programs and project for the communities and schools.
